Accessibility

Qurany is for everyone who wants to read the Quran calmly. Here is what is in place, what has not been checked yet, and how to tell us when something gets in your way.

What is in place

  • Readable contrastText colours were measured against the AA standard (4.5 to 1) and raised where they fell short.
  • Names for screen readersIcon-only buttons are labelled, and the recited ayah is announced with its surah and number.
  • KeyboardEvery sheet closes with Escape, and a shortcuts sheet lists them all.
  • Reduce Motion and Reduce TransparencyLarge animations stop and glass panels turn solid when you ask your Mac to.
  • Comfortable targetsControls are at least 24 points across.
  • A true right-to-left appArabic is not a mirrored afterthought: the whole layout turns around.
  • Your own reading sizeThe reader has its own text size slider.

Still being checked

  • VoiceOver and Full Keyboard Access were checked in the code, but not yet in a long session with the real tools.
  • Outside the reader, text uses fixed sizes. macOS gives third-party apps no system text size, so an in-app setting is still to be decided.
  • Recall mode hides the text from the eye, but VoiceOver can still read it.
  • Hover tips do not appear on keyboard focus yet.
